The Epistemic Relation Grammar defines the semantic logic of links between concepts in the Pyragogy framework. It establishes typed relations such as REQUIRES, STRENGTHENS, CONTRADICTS, MITIGATES, ACTIVATES, and FAILS_INTO to structure the graph.
2. Use Case
Activated whenever adding new nodes to the syllabus or auditing the connections between existing notes, ensuring that the graph operates as a rigorous reasoning instrument rather than just visual navigation.
3. Human Role
The human must choose relation types intentionally. They cannot simply create generic backlinks because two topics share a keyword; they must explicitly define the epistemological nature of the connection.
4. AI Role
The AI can propose relation types when analyzing text or suggesting new nodes, but it must explain why the proposed edge is epistemically valid according to the grammar rules, rather than relying on statistical keyword proximity.
5. Friction
The grammar introduces structural friction by preventing “everything links to everything” graph inflation. If a user attempts to link two nodes without specifying a valid, directional typed relation, the connection is treated as invalid.
6. Risk
Without a strict relation grammar, the Graph View degenerates into visual noise—a hairball of generic associations that looks complex but offers no actual utility for diagnosing risks or prescribing protocols.
7. Observable Markers
Links between nodes are strictly typed and justified. The resulting graph can be traversed logically (e.g., following a chain from a capability, to the risk that threatens it, to the protocol that mitigates that risk).
